The Pinhal course is a Par 72 measuring 6353m, it is located in Vilamoura, a 20 minute drive from Faro Airport. This course meanders through the pine forests, these trees are sometimes the biggest hazard of the course, but there are also streams and lakes to catch you out too. With well positioned bunkers as well, good course management is a must. The round has a tricky start, with two long Par 4s and two long Par 5s. The Par 3 8th is also a tough hole, where the tee shot is over water onto a two tiered green, that is well protected by four bunkers.
The Laguna course is a Par 72 measuring 6121m, it is located in Vilamoura, a 20 minute drive from Faro Airport. Its coastal location and lack of trees, gives the course a typical links feel. The course lakes come into play on 11 holes and if the water hazards aren’t enough, there are also 79 bunkers to avoid and also the wind that blows over the more exposed parts of the course. The Par 4 18th is a long hole to an elevated green, a par to finish here is a good achievement. This is an open course and can be enjoyed by all abilities, however, high handicappers should make sure they have plenty of spare golf balls.
The Millennium course is Par 72 measuring 6176m, it is located in Vilamoura, a 20 minute drive from Faro Airport. This is a fantastic course that winds its way through the pine forests that dominate the landscape in this area, but it means accuracy is required to avoid hitting the trees. The signature hole is the Par3 6th, which although short, the green is well guarded by a lake. With its lakes and narrow fairways this course will challenge experienced players, but it is also manageable for the higher handicappers too.
The Victoria Championship course is a Par 72 measuring 6609m, it is located in Vilamoura, a 30 minute drive west of Faro Airport. This Arnold Palmer designed course is built on fairly flat terrain and features gently undulating fairways, numerous water hazards and well positioned bunkers. This course has played host to the WGC World Cup, but with each hole having 5 or 6 tees available, it is suitable for all levels of players. This long course tests players driving ability as well as their short game, and it is a “must play” course on all Portuguese golf holidays.
The Faldo course is a Par 72 measuring 6598m, it is located at the Amendoeira Golf Resort, Silves, 35 minutes drive from Faro Airport and 4 km inland from the beach resort of Armação de Pêra. The course has an Arizona desert feel with the terracotta colour of the earth and the cacti and herbs. With the big sloping greens it requires strategic play, but with an extensive selection of tees, it caters for all levels of player. The course opens with a testing uphill, Par-4. The downhill, Par-5, fourth encounters a meandering watercourse, which comes into play on three of the front 9 holes and two of the back 9. The back nine is quite hilly, which means you get to enjoy some great views to the distant mountains and orange groves.
The Old Course is a Par 73 measuring 6254m, it is located in Vilamoura, a 20 minute drive from Faro Airport. This is one of the oldest and most famous courses in the region. This gently undulating course winds its way through the pine forests, so course management is more important than hitting a long ball. This beautiful course has a great variety of holes. The signature hole is the stroke index 1 8th hole. The fairway all slopes downhill to an awaiting bunker, then dog legs to the right and up to an elevated, well protected green. Playing this course is an experience that you won’t forget.
