The Montgomerie is a Par 72 measuring 6486m, designed by Colin Montgomerie. The course cuts through a mature pine forest and with eight lakes there are several water hazards to be avoided. The course comprises of six Par 5s, six Par 4s and six Par 3s and includes some truly spectacular holes.
The front nine is where most of the water hazards are to be found, whereas the back nine features many tee shots over wasteland. With a good variety of tees on every hole this is a challenging course that can be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities.
Carya is a Par 72 heathland course measuring 6571m. Although very close to the beach, this really does have the feel of a heathland course. The fairways are lined with pine and eucalyptus trees as they run across a sand ridge. The Par 5 6th measuring 574m is appropriately named ‘Long’.
The signature hole is the Par 3 7th named ‘Sirens’ (and like the winged beauties, it is pretty but dangerous), where a tee shot is required over a stream and hollow and where the green entrance is guarded by heather topped bunkers. This is well worth adding to your golf itinerary during your golf break.
The National is a Par 72 course measuring 6279m. Built into the natural terrain, it meanders through pine and eucalyptus trees and with the snow-capped Taurus Mountains as a backdrop and an abundance of natural lakes, this is a stunning course. Designed by Ryder Cup Player David Feherty, he has ensured that no two holes are similar.
The National is also home to a superb 9 hole Academy course, which features tree lined holes and several water hazards that come into play. It can be a great warm up round before you tackle the championship course.
The Faldo course is a Par 72 measuring 6598m, it is located at the Amendoeira Golf Resort, Silves, 35 minutes drive from Faro Airport and 4 km inland from the beach resort of Armação de Pêra. The course has an Arizona desert feel with the terracotta colour of the earth and the cacti and herbs. With the big sloping greens it requires strategic play, but with an extensive selection of tees, it caters for all levels of player. The course opens with a testing uphill, Par-4. The downhill, Par-5, fourth encounters a meandering watercourse, which comes into play on three of the front 9 holes and two of the back 9. The back nine is quite hilly, which means you get to enjoy some great views to the distant mountains and orange groves.
